Ofcom’s Connected Nations 2024 report highlights significant strides in UK broadband and mobile connectivity:

Full-fibre boom: Nearly 70% of UK homes (20.7 million) now have access to full-fibre broadband, a substantial increase from the previous year.
Gigabit-capable connections: Combined full-fibre and cable networks provide gigabit-capable broadband to 83% of homes, putting the UK on track to meet the government’s 85% target by 2025.
Full-fibre uptake: A growing number of households (35%) are opting for full-fibre services where available, up from 28% in May 2023.
Faster broadband: The average maximum download speed has surged to 223 Mbps, reflecting a shift towards higher-speed packages.
Mobile 5G expansion: 5G technology is gaining traction, carrying 21% of mobile data traffic and supported by 50% of mobile handsets.
4G dominance: 4G remains the most widely used technology, handling 78% of mobile data traffic. Its landmass coverage has expanded to 95%, thanks in part to the Shared Rural Network program.
These developments underscore the UK’s commitment to delivering faster, more reliable, and widely accessible digital connectivity.
